Council of Economic Advisors · Meeting of July 10, 2026
NEEDHAM — The Needham Council of Economic Advisors began shaping a townwide economic development study funded by a $50,000 state legislative earmark. Town staff member John Sisson told the committee the funds must be spent by the end of fiscal 2027 and said a request for proposals could open "as early as September." Members debated how to track retail and office vacancies, with one broker noting CoStar "definitely" undertracks small retail spaces, and discussed whether Needham Center has too many bank branches, with one member calling the dynamic "a bank or a vacancy." Sisson said he is drawing on economic development studies from Andover, Newton and Medford as models. Separately, the Planning Board asked the committee to formally review two completed parking studies by consultant StanTech covering Needham Center and Needham Heights.
No votes were taken beyond approving minutes and adjourning.
