Park Commission Approves New Town Forest Trail Signs
Other Committee 2026-09-28 Part 3 · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Needham's Park and Recreation Commission unanimously backed a plan to install standardized directional signage across the Needham Town Forest, mirroring a system already installed at Ridge Hill Reservation, and welcomed new DPW Superintendent of Parks and Forestry Tim Carpenter, previously of Brockton. Carpenter reported grub damage at one town field and storm damage to new tennis courts, and said the department will seek $40,000 to $60,000 in added budget for field maintenance. Staff presented a 95-bench inventory and data showing 528 adult tennis lesson registrations since January 2025, as the commission weighed, without voting, whether to let a town-employed instructor offer private lessons on public courts: "I still feel strongly that the taxpayers paid for these facilities." The commission also approved its September 14 minutes and discussed a Nov. 1 Community Preservation Committee funding deadline for a proposed action sports park.
