Zoning Board Approves 86-Unit Affordable Housing Permit

Needham Zoning Board unanimously approves comprehensive permit for 86-unit affordable housing project. The board signed off on Charles River Heights LLC's Chapter 40B application for 59 East Militia Heights Drive after a lengthy line-by-line review of the draft decision, with roughly half the units set aside as supportive housing for adults with disabilities operated by Charles River Center. Attorney Tim Sullivan of Goulston & Storrs and project manager Phil Crane negotiated revisions on ownership structure, local preference marketing and permit-transfer language, while the board required a written agreement between the applicant and Charles River Center to cover snow removal and maintenance on Dwight Road.
"We do it all," said Charles River Center president and CEO Ann Marie Potts of the road's current upkeep. Separately, the board continued a Falcon Street building-permit appeal to March 19 to resolve a jurisdictional dispute over which board should hear stormwater claims.
