NEEDHAM --
TOWN -- The town's Parks and Forestry Division, under the Department of Public Works, has a new superintendent. Tim Carpenter, who joined Needham about three weeks ago, previously served as superintendent of parks and active superintendent of cemeteries for the city of Brockton, where he oversaw roughly 30 parks and athletic facilities, including a golf course and two pools, according to his introduction at a recent meeting. Carpenter said he is looking to expand his background into forestry and called Needham a town that "seems to value their green spaces a great deal."
YOUTH LEAGUES -- Needham Youth Hockey Association's online schedule showed travel teams from U8 through U18, boys and girls, in action against opponents including Parkway, Westwood, Medfield, Hyde Park, Central Mass Revolution, South Boston, Framingham, Billerica, Natick, Lexington/Bedford, Dedham and Charlestown, with games spread across rinks such as West Roxbury, Wellesley Rink 2, Babson, St. Sebastian's, Ryan Arena, Reilly Memorial Rink, Metropolis Rink and Hyde Park. One matchup, the Girls U10-1 team against the Allston Brighton Warriors U10 at Reilly Memorial Rink, was listed as canceled.
The club's site also shows registration open for several programs: Learn to Play and Learn to Skate are accepting sign-ups, and families registering for coed travel hockey are directed to the Valley Hockey League's registration portal, with Needham's Mite 1, 2 and 3 teams mapped to the league's AAA, AA and A levels respectively, a format the club says also applies at the Squirt, Peewee, Bantam and Midget levels.
