Charles River Public Health District Approves FY27 Work Plan Ahead of June 30 Deadline
NEEDHAM -- June 23, 2026, Charles River Public Health District votes unanimously to approve its FY27 work plan and submit it to state regulators by a June 30 deadline. The four-community district, serving Dover, Medfield, Needham, and Sherborn, approved a plan developed by program manager Carrie Danell covering two sustainability objectives, two performance standards objectives, and two elective activities within a $325,000 annual grant. Members spent significant time on the fiscal future of the statewide shared services program, which costs roughly $26 million to operate but faces competing House and Senate budget proposals of $12.5 million and $15 million respectively for FY27, with ARPA supplemental dollars set to expire after the current three-year grant cycle ends in FY28. The board also learned that contract negotiations for a shared medical director, emergency physician Caleb Dresser, remain unresolved after a pivot to routing the arrangement through Dresser's employer, Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians; Needham health official Tim said flu vaccine orders must be placed in July, making a signed contract effectively an immediate necessity.
