NEEDHAM — A four-town public health panel found all of Dover, Medfield, Needham and Sherborn fell short on state burial-regulation requirements. Manager Carrie Dinelle reported the towns collectively met 79 percent of standards on a new state survey, with gaps also in lead, nuisance and medical waste rules. Dover's Kay Peterson proposed a cross-town work group to study shared fixes, starting with pool regulations she said hadn't been updated "in 30 years." Needham Director of Health and Human Services Tim McDonald described pressing state Representative Josh Tarski for more consistent shared-services funding, saying "the way we fund public health in the state is inequitable." Medfield's Carol Reed warned her town "does not have a commercial tax base" and called continued state funding "vital and imperative." Members also discussed a new MHOA tobacco compliance grant and a request to examine regulating kratom sales.
No votes were taken on any of these items; the board only approved minutes and adjourned by roll call.
