NEEDHAM — The Needham Retirement Board agreed to keep two part-time aides on staff through January 31, 2027, as Administrator Katina Goodwitch finishes training on payroll and bank-reconciliation work. The board approved a September payroll warrant of $1,415,748.75 and an October expense warrant of $430,842.03, both by unanimous roll call. Board member Bob Merles criticized $126,000 in annual fees paid to the state's Pension Reserves Investment Management Board, citing an executive director base salary of $580,000 and total compensation of $1,161,907, calling the fees "outrageous." Fund assets grew to roughly $297 million through August from about $282 million at the start of the fiscal year.
The board also previewed, but did not vote on, a fiscal 2027 budget draft after member Tatiana Swanson said she didn't "want us to arbitrarily increase the budget without proper justification for it."
