NEEDHAM -- Charles River Public Health District's four-town shared services program faces a potential $25,000 shortfall in its proposed FY27 budget. Program Manager Carrie presented a draft spending plan anchored to a fixed $325,000 grant, with staff costs projected to climb to 72 percent of total spending as the district operates fully staffed for the first time in years; she said she is working to identify cuts from travel, training, and supplies to close the gap. A separate invoicing discrepancy with Dover Health Director Jason Balmonte, who said his town had budgeted $30,000 from shared services, will require a follow-up call before the budget is finalized.
The board also heard that the $10,000 medical director line for Dr. Caleb Juster is likely sufficient only for an administrative role, with clinical malpractice coverage described as "cost prohibitive." Regional Public Health Nurse Jen Gatterin reported that nurses across all four towns are backing a cross-community referral pathway to Needham's Vaccines for Children program, while environmental health staff Cy and Jay are conducting baseline food safety inspections across all 60 permitted establishments in Medfield.
