Needham assessors deny 23 of 35 tax abatement bids

Needham's Board of Assessors elected new leadership and denied most of the tax abatement bids before it. John Boleyn was elected chair, Mike Diener vice chair, and Mark Wexler was appointed clerk. Taxpayer John Ngozian argued his three-family property at 16 Highland Terrace carries "the highest assessment of all the three families in the town of Needham," while a Rosegate Road homeowner identified as Vasu cited a private road, steep grades and a $27,000 retaining-wall repair in seeking relief on his home.

After executive session, the board granted 11 of 35 fiscal 2026 abatement and exemption applications and denied 23, including all three properties discussed at the public hearing; one application was held to the board's earlier April 6 decision.
