NEEDHAM -- May 12, 2026, Needham Park and Recreation Commission declines to allow Pollard project supporters to table at town recreational events. Meeting May 12 in the Great Plain Room at Town Hall, the commission reached informal consensus to pursue a formal neutrality policy barring political advocacy tabling at commission-run events such as Touch of Trucks and Spooky Walk, after a representative of the Pollard Now group asked to distribute override support materials at department programming. "I would vote for a policy that says we just don't do it," said one commissioner, citing a slippery slope concern and the recreational purpose of department events. The commission also heard from Director Stacey that summer camp enrollment has reached 859 registrations generating just under $4 million in revenue, and approved six special event permits unanimously, including a relocation of a Temple Beth Shalom field day to Mills Field to avoid playoff conflicts. Commissioners closed the meeting by acknowledging the departure of Department of Public Works staffer Ed Olsen, calling his exit "a huge loss for the town."
