NEEDHAM — The Needham Finance Committee voted 5-4 to recommend Town Meeting approval of a $325 million appropriation for a new Pollard Middle School. Committee member Steve McLaughlin led opposition, calling the design roughly 120,000 square feet larger than the existing Pollard campus and citing a 10 percent debt policy threshold.
Member Joe estimated total principal-and-interest payback at $493 million over 35 years, or about $43,000 in added taxes for the average $1.5 million home.
