Finance Panel Reviews Pollard's $325M Price Tag

Finance Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026

Needham Finance Committee reviews $325.4 million Pollard Middle School financing ahead of a November 3 debt-exclusion vote. Financial advisor Dave Davidson told the panel the town would borrow $242,959,927 after a Massachusetts School Building Authority grant of $80,642,108, pushing the average single-family home's tax bill up an estimated $37 in fiscal 2028, "the town will not be issuing debt all at once," Davidson said. Superintendent officials defended the building's size, saying it will serve "25 percent of the students in Needham." Resident Lisa Miller urged the town to dedicate new tax growth to debt service.

Separately, the committee unanimously approved a $95,000 transfer to replace the Recycling Transfer Station's rusted, 20-year-old scale and approved its June 17 minutes. Members pressed unsuccessfully for missing operating-cost and staffing estimates before their September 30 recommendation vote.
