Needham Panel Interviews 10 for Trust Fund Seat

Needham interviews 10 candidates for a vacant trust fund oversight seat, splits three ways on a favorite. A Select Board member and two sitting Commissioners of Trust Funds, identified only as Josh, Julia and Daniel, questioned applicants for roughly 10 minutes each on assessing investment managers and reading investment policy statements. The seat, vacated August 30, oversees an estimated $12 million to $14 million across dozens of donor-restricted trusts and runs only through the April 13, 2027 town election.
Panelists floated three different favorites — Deborah Bedeker, Katie McDonald and Crystal Morley — with one member saying "we don't have as much the investment professional... who is used to assessing managers... and performance against benchmarks." Unable to agree, the group scheduled a follow-up meeting for Monday, September 14, at 4:30 p.m. to finalize a recommendation before the September 22 joint appointment vote.
