Trust fund panel splits 2-1, forwards two names

Needham trust fund subcommittee splits 2-1, forwards two finalists instead of one. Chair Daniel Burns and Vice Chair Julia Cosentino, joined by Select Board member Joshua Levy, reviewed 10 applicants interviewed September 9 for the vacant Commissioners of Trust Funds seat. Cosentino and Levy voted to recommend both Deborah Bettecker and Katie McDonald to the September 22 joint meeting of the Select Board and Commissioners of Trust Funds; Burns dissented, preferring to "coalesce around one" candidate.
Levy cited recent Needham Housing Authority and Park and Recreation Commission searches as precedent for forwarding multiple names. The seat will be filled by a five-vote majority of the seven-member joint board, meaning any of the original 10 applicants remains technically eligible.
