Human Rights Committee votes to co-sponsor America 250 dialogue series

Other Committee · Meeting of April 16, 2026

Needham Human Rights Committee backs America 250 dialogue series, rolls out bias hotline. Members voted unanimously to co-sponsor the four-session "America 250" civic conversation series, running May 18 through June 25, after committee member Marlene said she insisted the sessions "should not be at houses of worship." The committee is also finalizing a discrimination-complaint hotline at 781-514-7263, routed through an app, with town liaison Taylor holding off on publicizing it until members complete training. Members recapped a Select Board briefing on a new police department protocol governing ICE interactions, still under review.

School Committee member Sri Bakri detailed a February REAL Coalition equity session, saying "we need to meet more often" to sustain the district's inclusion efforts.
