Needham Assessors Grant 11 of 18 Tax Abatements
Other Committee · Meeting of March 19, 2026
Needham Board of Assessors grants 11 of 18 pending tax abatements, denies seven. Members announced the results after a closed-door executive session Thursday, granting relief on properties from Prince Street to Hillside Avenue while denying seven, including three withdrawn by applicants. Staff reported a cyclical inspection program reached its target of 216 properties, with about "50%" letting inspectors inside and the rest done from the street using aerial mapping tools.
A second mailing of income and expense forms goes out in "10 or 12 days," with return rates already near 50 percent, above the office's usual 33 percent. The board still has roughly 100 of an original 160 abatement applications to resolve and is scheduling around the April 14 town election, which is expected to bring a new member onto the three-person board.
