Needham Human Rights Committee Votes to Co-Sponsor High School Asian Culture Night

NEEDHAM — March 19, 2026 — Needham Human Rights Committee unanimously backs Asian Culture Night for first community-wide event. The committee voted at its March 19 meeting to co-sponsor the April 9 free performance event at Needham High School, organized by the Asian Student Union and Mandarin Club — the first year the event is open beyond the high school. Members agreed the committee's role will focus on promotion rather than funding, given limited resources, and Taylor, a town staff liaison, offered to notify the town's director of communications and connect organizers with Needham Observer editor Peter O'Neill for pre-event coverage. The committee also heard that the redesigned Needham town seal, developed with Human Rights Committee involvement, cleared the Select Board and is headed to Town Meeting in May, and received an update that First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church will dedicate an interior memorial honoring formerly enslaved Needham residents this Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
