Needham Building Panel Approves Warner Field Pact With Park and Rec

Other Committee · Meeting of July 27, 2026

Needham advances Article 97 fix for Pollard's geothermal wells, OKs Warner Field pact. The Public Building Committee and School Building Committee, chaired by Richard Green, voted 9-0 to approve a memorandum of agreement with the Park and Recreation Commission capping Warner Field's construction "offline" period at five years. Project presenter Katie King said state guidance requires a home rule petition, expected at October's special town meeting, after regulators determined geothermal wells beneath the field trigger Article 97 parkland protections.

Green called the state's reading "a stretch." The committee also approved $15,295 for library young-adult-space work, $6,264 for Center at the Heights architectural services, and $272,717.66 for the Newman theater lighting upgrade, while staff outlined a $325 million Pollard cost estimate against a roughly $250 million bare-repair alternative that lacks MSBA reimbursement.
