Needham design board approves Briarwood facade renovation unanimously

Needham Design Review Board approves Briarwood facade upgrade, advances scaled-down Chabad center. The board voted unanimously to approve exterior renovations at 150 Lincoln Street's Briarwood Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, including a new canopy and white board-and-batten facade presented by designer Michael Levowitz. Architect Alan Westman told the board the Chabad center project at 1195 Central Avenue has dropped in height from 43.6 feet to 34.6 feet since neighbors raised concerns last fall; the item drew no vote and heads to a Conservation Commission hearing April 23.

Board member Felix recused himself from that item. Separately, the board voted 5-0 three times to resolve a Highland Avenue repair shop's signage dispute, approving two by-right signs and a gas pricing sign for applicant John Carr while denying permits for nine other previously contested signs.
