Needham Design Review Board unanimously approved three sign applications and deferred a fourth to a July special-permit hearing. Acting Chair Steve Dornbusch presided at the May 18 remote meeting in place of the regular chair, with members Felix, Susan, and Harrell present. The board approved a new LED scoreboard for St.
Sebastian's School's varsity fields with a condition barring sponsorships, signed off on a patio lattice-fence refresh with flower boxes for The James restaurant, and cleared a no-frills replacement loading-dock sign for the Harvard Bookstore warehouse. A fourth application from Onyx Partners, covering signage for a newly acquired Route 128 building that will house Pure Hockey retail on the first floor and Onyx corporate offices above, was continued to July 13 after Dornbusch noted the proposal would require a special permit, and member Felix flagged concerns that the front-lit and back-lit signs could be "pretty Vegas" in brightness; the applicants agreed to return with a lumens analysis.
