Needham Mobility Committee Seeks Select Board Approval for Disability Liaison Seat

Needham's Mobility Planning and Coordination Committee moved to formalize a liaison role with the Commission on Disabilities and pushed a data-driven sidewalk scoring program closer to the Select Board. On the sidewalk program, members reviewed a pilot condition-and-accessibility scoring report from consultant APEX covering a five-mile segment of town sidewalks, with scores weighted 45 percent on physical condition and 25 percent on a GIS-based pedestrian usage analysis; members including Stephen Frail and Duncan Allen backed a full town baseline assessment of roughly 140 miles of sidewalk, estimated at $100,000 or more, saying it would replace what Frail called a "hunger games" system with a transparent, data-driven program.

Member James Goldstein also called for better survey methodology on the street design guide process, noting 62 percent of respondents were over 55.
