Needham panel picks Bond Building as Pollard construction manager

Other Committee · Meeting of March 9, 2026

Needham's Permanent Public Building Committee and School Building Committee jointly advanced the Pollard Middle School project into schematic design, hiring Bond Building Construction Inc. as construction manager at risk on a unanimous roll call and awarding it a $150,000 pre-construction contract. Chair Richard Crean presided over both bodies in a concurrent session. One member called the selection process "exceptional." A proposed zoning change allowing a four-story building, floor-area ratio up to 0.42 and roughly 260 parking spaces heads to the Select Board March 24 ahead of an October 19 town meeting and November 3 town vote.

The committee is also revising a town-wide tax-impact analysis as it works to bring the project's roughly $336 million estimate closer to a prior $314 million figure. Separately, the Permanent Public Building Committee approved five invoices, including $311,886.75 for the DPW Fleet Maintenance Facility and $191,105.68 for the library young adult project.
