Needham CPC hears $2.5 million in preservation funding requests

Needham's Community Preservation Committee heard four funding requests totaling roughly $2.5 million without taking a vote. Parks and Forestry Superintendent Edward Olsen and Park and Recreation Director Stacy Mulroy pitched a $1.4 million Elliott School playground rebuild, with Principal Karen Born calling the current structure overdue for repair: "the existing structure is definitely in need of refurbishment." A separate $50,000 disc golf feasibility study drew support from several residents but a caution from town meeting member Holly Clark, who said "perhaps we ask our very dedicated and excited disc golf community" to find a cheaper model. Needham Housing Authority chair Reg Foster and Cambridge Housing Authority's Matt Zaycheck sought $804,000 for roof and solar work at Seabeds Way, part of a $13 million preservation project.

Town Manager Katie King requested $300,000 toward an $800,000, 10-acre land buy off Cartwright Road near Ridge Hill Reservation. All four requests head to a committee vote next week ahead of May's town meeting.
