Needham panel updates elderly tax relief eligibility for FY26

Needham panel raises income limits for its elderly and disabled tax relief fund. Meeting Wednesday, the committee that oversees the town-appropriated fund agreed to a 3 percent inflation bump, moving the single-applicant income ceiling to $66,500 and the couple ceiling to $81,900 for fiscal year 2026. Applications are due April 30, with award notifications mailed by May 29.

The annual town appropriation has held at $50,000 for four to five years, and voluntary donations are running around $6,000 so far this year versus $16,320 raised by a similar point last year. Members discussed asking the Select Board for more money, possibly $60,000, but said this year's town warrant has already closed; one member noted the town's coming Pollard override could make new funding a tough ask. "It's lower," one member said of this year's donations.

No formal votes were taken.
