Other Committee · Meeting of March 25, 2026
Needham Retirement Board erupts over PERAC audit findings, adjourns 4-0. Board member Bob Burroughs accused Chair Michelle of having "had it in for the executive director from the beginning," while administrator Jake defended his staff against a draft state audit citing eight retirement allowances from 2016-18 with unresolved pay variances. The office has submitted PERAC paperwork for 60 to 80 retirees since 2019 and gotten back 38 approvals; a written rebuttal is due to PERAC within 10 days.
The board is also weighing a warrant article raising its COLA base from $18,000 to $20,000 as retiree health insurance costs have jumped 69.3 percent in two years, and it delayed voting the COLA percentage until after Town Meeting acts.
