Needham reviews $3 million plan for new skate park and pickleball courts. Landscape architect Cassie Bethany of Weston-Sampson and skate park designer Brad Seidlecki of Pillar Design Studios presented an updated concept to the town's Park and Recreation Commission for a Central Avenue site, including five new pickleball courts, expanded parking and a skate park built above grade to avoid disturbing buried ledge from the property's history as a quarry. A remote attendee identified as Michael Toe pressed for a budget breakdown between the two facilities; a town representative said the project carries a combined "three million total" with no split yet finalized.
Residents raised concerns about parking overflow near Horsford Pond and pushed for more bike- and scooter-friendly features, which Seidlecki said would require reshaping the low-speed, technical layout. The commission expects a final concept by September, with a construction-funding vote at Town Meeting in May 2027.
