Needham's Technology Advisory Board reviewed a multiyear ERP implementation and a data breach affecting the Canvas learning platform at its May 28 meeting. Chair Michael Mathias reported that the town has executed a fixed-bid contract with Pilot Technologies to consolidate financial, HR, and billing functions across town and school departments over three years, with tax billing under the new system targeted for July 2027. On cybersecurity, Mathias disclosed that Instructure, Canvas's parent company, paid a ransom after a breach that may have exposed Needham staff and student names and email addresses; a member identified as Mark warned that a coming AI-based vulnerability tool called Mythos will sharply increase patch volumes, urging critical patches within two days.
The board set its reorganization meeting for June 25 at 6 p.m. to elect officers, with a September 17 date tentatively reserved for budget-season discussions.
