Needham TSC votes unanimously on three parking and safety measures at July 8 meeting

Other Committee · Meeting of July 8, 2026

Needham's Transportation and Safety Committee voted 6-0 three times at its July 8 meeting, approving no-parking zones on Country Way at Central Avenue and on the northerly side of Greendale Avenue from Davenport Street to Webster Street, and ordering intersection warning signs at Howland Street and Webster Street. Acting Chair Tyler Gabrielski, Director of Streets, presided in place of absent Chair Justin McCullin, who joined by video. Petitioner Margo Wallach, a 38-year Country Way resident who collected 14 neighbor signatures, described large trucks parking with traffic cones near the intersection and creating what she called a near-collision hazard; the committee formalized the existing 20-foot corner clearance through signage.

On Greendale Avenue, resident Anthony Piro of number 25 said school-related traffic tied to Temple Beth's expanding campus left him unable to back out of his driveway; Lieutenant McGrath, who noted police already cone the street during major temple events, moved the restriction and said, "We're already trying to do it without a regulation — so this would actually help." Traffic engineer Bob Wilson reported flashing crosswalk signs are now up at Highland Avenue at Honeywell and Greendale Avenue at Intervale, both obtained at no cost through MassDOT giveaway programs, and that an all-way stop at Hillside and Honeywell is planned for installation within days.
