Planning Board OKs Hickory Club Special Permit
Planning Board · Meeting of September 1, 2026
Needham Planning Board approves Hickory Club permit, extends hospital traffic study a year. The board voted 4-0 to grant the Hickory Club, a private indoor golf and entertainment venue, a combined special permit and parking waiver to operate in the New England Business Center district. Members also voted 4-0 to give the town until August 2027 to complete a $25,000 traffic signal warrant analysis tied to the Children's Hospital campus, with Town Engineer Tom Writer confirming work begins in October.
On two Zoning Board of Appeals cases, at 29 Davenport Road and 324 Chestnut Street's Monsoon Indian restaurant, the board voted no comment, saying neither triggered its jurisdiction. Most of the meeting, however, went to reviewing draft diagrams for a bylaw limiting three-story-looking walls and oversized attics, with Vice Chair Adam Block calling one exhibit "still not clear" and pressing for simpler, three-dimensional renderings before a future public hearing.
