Needham Planning Board closes a hospital parking hearing but stalls on a golf simulator club's permit. The board unanimously closed a public hearing on Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham's 39-space valet lot at 12-14 Oak Street, with a decision due August 25, after abutter Marilyn Shesko pressed for shielded, motion-sensor lighting. A separate hearing for Hickory Club, a golf-training facility proposed for 117 Kendrick Street, was continued to August 25 after Chair Justin McCullen said the board needed real parking-demand data from landlord Bullfinch rather than the applicant's own ratio-based estimate of 55 spaces.
Attorney Charles Leray countered, "I don't know what to tell him," describing the difficulty of quantifying anecdotal observations that the 707-space lot is rarely half full. The board also opened, without voting, two large-house zoning articles capping attic bulk and flat-roof height, with a vote planned for August 4 to meet the Select Board's referral deadline.
