NEEDHAM — The Needham Select Board heard Tuesday that electricity rates under the town's Power Choice aggregation program will likely rise when its contract is renewed for March 2027. Consultant Paul Gromer of Peregrine Energy Group said bids are expected in the 15.5-to-16.5-cent range, up from the current 12.8 cents per kilowatt-hour, though still below Eversource's 17.3-cent basic rate. Gromer said the program has saved participants "more than $3 million" since it launched.
The board also approved a bond anticipation note carrying a 4.75 percent interest rate and a $107,384 premium after receiving five bids, voted unanimously to sign a proclamation marking November 11 as Veterans Day, and voted 5-0 by roll call to enter executive session over litigation alleging price-fixing by firetruck manufacturers.
