NEEDHAM — The Needham Conservation Commission voted to advance a bylaw expanding its local wetlands buffer from 100 to 200 feet along the Charles River. Chair Dave Herer's board also approved an order of conditions for the MWRA's Metropolitan Tunnel Program and for a pool project at 945 Webster Street, where engineer John Glossa, a certified soil evaluator "since 1995," won approval despite a wetland the applicants hadn't known existed. The commission directed staff to draft an enforcement order after finding required riverfront mitigation plantings at 27 Mallard Road had been ripped out and resodded, with Herer saying the area "should be restored, period." A public hearing on the bylaw change is set for September 10, 2026; the Select Board must decide by September 22 whether to keep it on the fall Town Meeting warrant.
