Housing panel clears $35,852 payment as Linden Street project heads to bid

Needham's Finance Committee Community Housing Oversight Committee approved a $35,852.70 reimbursement to project architects as the Linden Street public housing renovation prepares to advertise for a general contractor this week, with bids due in early April. Betsy Collins of the Needham Housing Authority said the Seabed Way redevelopment is submitting roughly $12.5 million in state funding applications this month, partnering with the Taunton Housing Authority for added rental subsidies, and is "optimistic" despite Mike Madaly's absence due to a conflict. Phil Kareen of the Planning Office for Urban Affairs said the Charles River Center's 40B project was passed over in the state's latest tax-credit round, competing against roughly 105 applications, and will reapply in the fall.

Resident Ross Donald used public comment to press the committee on maintenance deficiencies, including potholes, as he seeks appointment as the development's resident commissioner. The Linden Street renovation's local share includes an $804,000 item headed to Town Meeting.
