Needham Finance Committee approves six town meeting warrant articles

Needham Finance Committee unanimously clears six warrant articles ahead of Annual Town Meeting. The panel raised the town's contributory retirement cost-of-living base from $18,000 to $20,000, a $29,280 annual cost across 488 retirees, with town accountant and Retirement Board chair Michelle Valancourt saying the town is "literally in catch-up right now" after years without an increase. Members also lifted the aging services revolving fund's spending ceiling from $100,000 to $150,000 after the senior center said it had already spent or encumbered $99,400 of this year's limit, approved a $50,000 opioid-settlement spending plan, a 3 percent town clerk salary increase to $136,994, and rescinded an unused $55,000 debt authorization from 2018.
A liaison update on redevelopment options for a town-owned property drew no vote.
