Needham assessors grant 8 abatements, deny 9 at hearing
Other Committee · Meeting of March 5, 2026
Needham Board of Assessors grants eight tax abatements, denies nine after closed session. The board reviewed 18 real estate exemption and abatement applications in executive session, granting relief at addresses including 35 Douglas, 622 Webster and 7 Southfield Court while upholding original assessments at 626 South Street, 136 Greendale and 178 Crescent; one application, at 214 Garden Street, was withdrawn. Assessing staff separately reported the town prevailed before the Appellate Tax Board on a 14 Coolidge Street case but lost a challenge involving a ranch home at 170 Parish Street, prompting a planned review of a split assessment neighborhood near Southfield Court for fiscal 2027.
Staff said roughly 300 homes will be inspected this spring as part of a broader push to visit 4,200 properties not inspected in a decade, "before the next rebound," at a pace of 800 to 1,000 a year.
