Needham board suspends three tobacco vendors over sales violations

Needham health department earns state accreditation, suspends tobacco vendors over sales violations. The Charles River Public Health District Advisory Board, which pools health staff for Dover, Medfield, Needham and Sherborn, heard that Needham became the state's fifth accredited public health entity, following notification received February 18. Health Agent Ed Cosgrove said Needham suspended tobacco sales for a week at three of its six vendors after citing them for violating the tobacco 21 law, waiving fines but enforcing the suspension.
Dover Board of Health member Kay Peterson said a four-town panel interviewing a shared medical-director candidate came away encouraged, calling the meeting one where "we were very engaged in active discussion of some of the important issues." Officials also noted the district's shared-services funding is set at $325,000 through fiscal year 2027, drawn from a statewide $15 million public health line item, and discussed new state-mandated workforce and performance surveys due this spring.
