Needham building panel approves $116,517 library change order
Other Committee · Meeting of February 23, 2026
Needham's Permanent Public Building Committee approved $116,517.41 in added construction costs for the library's Young Adult Area renovation. Chair Richard Cream led the unanimous roll-call vote on the change order, covering items from a $45,000 rear-entry door system to $18,000 in duct rerouting discovered above the ceiling. A project representative identified as Ken told members the library's roof itself was not leaking; staining instead came from condensation on rooftop mechanical units, found under all three units after the ceiling was opened.
Roughly $120,000 in contingency remains, which Ken called "a comfortable margin." The committee separately approved $15,000 for extended UTIL Incorporated construction administration, a $7,080 UTIL invoice and a $3,045.60 NV5 commissioning invoice. The target opening has slipped to early-to-mid April.
