Needham Conservation Commission Backs $800,000 Cartwright Road Land Buy

Needham commits $500,000 toward $800,000 Cartwright Road conservation land buy. The Conservation Commission voted unanimously to authorize the conservation-fund expenditure, one piece of an $800,000 purchase of 10 forested acres that would expand Ridge Hill Reservation; Town Manager Katie King said the Select Board signed the purchase and sale agreement the night before, with a $300,000 Community Preservation Act request headed to a March 4 vote and Town Meeting in May. Separately, the commission continued a hearing on a multi-year herbicide plan for Ice Pond on Charles River Street to March 12 after staff flagged that two proposed chemicals, Diquat and Amazomox, carry "drinking water concern" near the town's wellfield.
The commission also unanimously approved a DCR plan to replace two failing culverts at Cutler Park's Kendrick Pond, calling recurring trail flooding there "an impediment for visitors."
