Other Committee · Meeting of August 10, 2026

NEEDHAM — The Needham Mobility Planning and Coordination Committee pushed its design consultant to revise a draft Street Design Guide and weighed a six-figure sidewalk inventory. Member Duncan Allen said the draft wrongly claimed Needham has three commuter rail stations instead of four and ignored possible bus-priority projects. Staff member Tyler presented a roughly $125,000-to-$126,000 proposal from consultant Apex, using DeepWalk Research Inc.'s LiDAR technology, to scan every town sidewalk — a cost James Goldstein noted equals 12 percent of the Department of Public Works' annual sidewalk budget.

Steven Frail called it "a safety project" worth the money. The committee voted 6-0 to approve corrected July 13 minutes and 5-0, with Allen recused, to back a letter supporting Select Board accessibility goals and the Bay Colony Rail Trail extension, whose funding timeline member Tim Bolger said has stayed unchanged for three years.
