NEEDHAM — The Needham Retirement Board voted to adopt a lower-cost pension funding schedule for fiscal 2027. Members Michelle Bell, John Kowicki, Bob Merles and Jay Steves voted 4-0 to set the town's required contribution at $16.8 million under Schedule A2, avoiding Schedule A1's $18.4 million option. The board also approved a $1,416,715.85 payroll warrant and a $529,680.37 expense warrant, both unanimously.

Outgoing Administrator Jacob Cole disclosed unresolved issues, including a $30,000 month-over-month jump in PRIM management fees that staff had failed to follow up on, saying "I think last month the chair asked the administrator to look into it, I don't know whether that happened or not," per member Bob Merles. The board also deferred a vote on July membership changes after two retirees and one death were found missing from reports, and discussed a PERAC audit that found six to eight retirees with miscalculated benefits.
