Needham Pension Board Tables Minutes, Preps Payouts
Other Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Needham Retirement Board tables two months of minutes and preps pension fixes for a dozen retirees. Chair Michelle Ballantford and members Jay Steeves, Tatiana Swanson and John Kowicki voted 4-0 to approve a corrected $126,786.79 expense warrant after catching a payee error on a retirement rollover, and to name the chair sole legal signer for future board contracts. Administrator Katina Goodrich said letters go out by month's end to 12 retirees whose pensions are being recalculated after an audit, 11 upward and one down, with 15 days to appeal through PERAC.
Kowicki disclosed he is among those affected: "I've found my original calculation letter that was submitted to PERAC. I have evidence, so to speak." The board also approved a $1,415,116.89 payroll warrant and heard that Needham's retirement assets, invested through the state's PRIM fund, grew to nearly $298 million after a 12.7 percent annual return.
