Needham Select Board delays vote on golf course crossing closure

Needham Select Board postpones vote on silencing golf course train horns until February 24. More than half a dozen residents, including Toby Segerman and Chris Supple, urged the board to close an at-grade rail crossing at the Needham Golf Club sooner than Town Manager Katie's recommended December 1, 2026 start date, with Segerman noting his family normally hears "148 horn blasts every single weekday." Supple said a golf club contractor could install a temporary $700 chain-link closure almost immediately. The board also voted to accept $3.4 million from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority for a sewer project, of which $2.5 million never has to be repaid, leaving roughly $945,000 owed at 0 percent interest.
Separately, the board adopted a new appointment protocol, drawing pushback from members who said it cuts committee chairs out of interviewing prospective volunteers.
