Needham Select Board approves $800,000 open space purchase
Select Board · Meeting of February 24, 2026
Needham Select Board approves $800,000 open space buy, splits over minutes. The board voted unanimously to execute a purchase and sale agreement with Marjorie Pine for roughly 10 acres off Cartwright Road, land contiguous to the Ridge Hill Reservation, funded by $500,000 from the Conservation Commission trust and $300,000 in Community Preservation Act money. Conservation Commission Chair Dave Herr and Conservation Director Deb Anderson were credited with pursuing the deal for years.
Separately, the board approved a pilot seasonally closing the Needham Golf Club railroad crossing from December 1 through March 1 starting in 2026 to quiet train horns. The board also voted 4-1 three times, over member Josh Levy's dissent, to reject his proposed additions to prior meeting minutes, with colleague Marianne warning added commentary would "privilege a particular voice" while Levy said the "purpose of minutes is to understand who said what."
