Needham's Technology Advisory Board gets its first briefing on Pollard Middle School's tech plans. Chair Rich Ducci's board voted 5-0 to approve June minutes before hearing from Permanent Public Building Committee project managers Hank Half and Meryl Nistler on the 265,000-square-foot replacement building, which the Massachusetts School Building Authority will reimburse at about 24 percent. Preliminary, schematic-stage figures put technology-related costs near $15.9 million, including roughly $8.9 million in furniture, fixtures and equipment.
Chief Technology Officer Mark Moussainis said the town's cybersecurity hire is "coming in slower than I would hope" and proposed a new October 8 meeting so the board can review the capital budget draft before it reaches the School Committee. Members also debated whether the board's charter should expand to cover artificial intelligence governance.
