NEEDHAM — The Needham Park and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to pull up to $75,000 from its revolving fund for design work on a new Memorial Park turf field, after Needham Baseball's board offered the town a $325,000 gift toward the roughly $650,000 project. Recreation Director Hannah said design must proceed this fiscal year to meet a fiscal 2028 construction timeline. The revolving fund held $463,535, with about $160,000 already earmarked for bleachers.
Commissioners also adopted a new Participant Code of Conduct, modeled on Brookline and Lexington policies, covering all recreation programs after two adult altercations in sports leagues last year. A third 5-0 vote began the process of amending the town's joint field-lighting policy to add the Claxton complex. Pool revenue topped $500,000, with non-residents accounting for about 24 percent, commissioners said, calling the share "a lot to give up."
