NEEDHAM — The Needham Technology Advisory Board reviewed a technology capital plan that cuts the school department's request by $623,000. Technology director Mark Macinas said core network and security funding stayed intact while classroom audiovisual purchases were deferred or dropped, citing equipment "that we were able to just drop completely" after it outlasted its expected lifespan. The board also reviewed a town-side request including a split of a $150,000 Memorial Fieldhouse line into $75,000 each for the Fieldhouse and the RRC community room, plus phased data center replacements of $350,000 annually from fiscal 2029 through 2031.
Staff presenter Ann outlined a high school auditorium lighting and sound project totaling $299,298 for design and $2.2 million for construction, following a 2022 consultant study. No formal vote was taken on the capital plan; the board approved its prior minutes and adjourned by roll call.
