Planning Board · Meeting of August 4, 2026

NEEDHAM — The Needham Planning Board voted to send large-house zoning articles to the Select Board for hearing scheduling ahead of October's Special Town Meeting. Vice Chair Adam Block ran the meeting as acting chair while Chair Justin McCullen joined remotely; both voted along with members Oscar Mertz, Eric Greenberg and Artie Crocker in a 5-0 roll call. The board also closed a public hearing on a special permit allowing continued herbicide treatment of invasive milfoil in a pond at 636 Charles River Street, with a decision due August 25.

Members debated how far to go in commenting on a two-story accessory dwelling unit proposed at 20 Mason Road, with Mertz calling it a structure with "blank wall" facades neighbors "would not like." The board voted 5-0 to ask the Zoning Board of Appeals to weigh the unit's height, setback and windowless walls at its August 20 hearing.
